The open-air bath was a refreshing escape.
Navigating to Hakone Honbako was a nightmare! We experienced immense frustration trying to catch a taxi from Gora station—it took us over 30 minutes with nothing in sight. Finally, we discovered the tram option only after wasting so much time. I can't stress enough how poorly the transportation situation was handled for guests unfamiliar with the area.

Perfect for food and onsen lovers
I had a private open-air bath that gave me fine views of the mountains! The food was out of this world, 3 nights 3 distinct menus, each with a full background story. I felt like I was on a journey through Japanese cuisine every meal.
It wasn't exactly cheap, but honestly, the experience made it worth it.

I stayed in a Twin Room with Terrace and it was super comfy! The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The room was spacious and clean. It had its own little terrace which was awesome for enjoying the mountain views. The whole vibe was really cozy, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. Only downside was that the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty, but I was too busy enjoying the onsen to care much.

Spent 2 nights in a Twin Room with a terrace. Room had air conditioning, an electric kettle, and a private bathroom. Loved the open-air bath and public bath for authentic onsen vibes! I really enjoyed lounging with a book in the cozy library and indulging in the delicious breakfast spread each morning. The hot springs and open-air bath were pure bliss, perfect for unwinding. The only small hassle was the lack of some furniture in the room, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. 😊
